Running gag my friend Trung had in high school you wouldn't understand. You? HA HA, there is no you, as no one but myself will read this. As with all of my bloggy things, it is months apart from any other post and i will also pledge to myself to post more often.

Now that I've got the notes from the last meeting out of the way, let's begin.

I bought the trade paperback of The Umbrella Academy; Apocalypse Suite, which compiles the first 6 issues of the comic book. Oh it's a comic by the way, written by Gerard Way and pretty pictures by Gabriel Ba. Oh, Gerard Way is the lead of My Chemical Romance by the way. If i've not yet alienated anyone yet, I will try my best to do so.

To put it into one word: this. shit. is. bananas. B A N A N A S.  I hate doing this but it seems the only way I can ever describe things is by comparing it to 2 other things and then mooshing their qualities together. So, with that in hand, and by "that" I mean cock and "hand" I mean blender I'll continue. It's like Hellboy meets powerpuff girls and venture brothers set in come kind of age of apocalypse impossible timeline, but of course by doing this I've said nothing about the comic so Ill just say this: It's the most original comic I've read that still seems to stay true to old comic conventions.

I live in Melbourne but may refrain from attending this years' Supanova (tv,anime and comics con) as I've not heard of any of the "special" guests and artists other than Jhonen Vasquez, whose work I like and blog I've begun to read. Also quite entertaining are his twitter posts, my favourite of which have been short epic adventures to say the least. Trying to recreate outrun in real life for example and walking our the front door, choosing a direction to walk and not stopping for anything.

As with Supanova, I dunno how much they're spending to fly these "stars" out but I hope that next year they can try to bring in someone I would want to go to a con to see. People in webcomics like Scott Kurtz, Kris Straub, shit even Tanya and Fes or Mark from the lesser known Webcomic Beacon podcast would be enough of a draw for me to go. Who the fuck is this? The cheerleader from heroes? Some douche from twilight? Who cares about fucking Todd Macfarlane? No-one buys his action figures or reads Spawn. Bonnie Piesse? What, Lukes mum from episode 2? Who gives a shit? Inara from Firefly... uhh I would see, she's pretty cool, but other than her and Mr. Scolex It's pretty light on the ground. I don't think there'll ever be a sizeable webcomics gathering in this country, which is saddening. Either than or I'm looking in the wrong places for information on conventions.

Oh yeah, Aimee and I will be playing D&D every fortnight at a local gaming store. Really like the atmosphere there, we put our characters together last session and I should have a cool model customised for my character.Teirfling Warlock btw. I'll stick a photo up somewhere soon.

CAPTION
Nevada 1869

Madeline steps out of a saloon and lights a cigarette. She walks away, through town.
She’s stopped when she sees something in the sky, followed by a loud boom. We don’t see what she saw
While all this is happening the Narrator speaks.

NARRATOR
The Californian Gold rush of 1849 pulled the burgeoning American nation westwards.
This ushered in a time of greed, blood, dust, horses and gunfire. It became a harsh lawless place where
many choose to seek their fortune but only few survi- (sound of ship crashing) Holy shoot what was that?!?

INT SPACESHIP HUGGYBEAR BRIDGE
Smoke is everywhere. Kjlljoy, and Glaxon get up from the ground. Steve is already up.

GLAXON
Uhhg… Damage report?

STEVE
Well, I really got knocked around. My knees are scraped, my neck really hurts and I think I’ve
damaged one of my spleens.

KJLLJOY
He means the ship, you idiot.

Steve moves to the piloting console.

STEVE
Ohh, um.. Major Hull damage. The Water Purification Core is on fire, the Huon Particle Collider collided with Kjlljoys quarters and I think I lost that cool thingy I bought today.

KJLLJOY
Fantastic(!) Oh, but you forgot about the Flux Doohickey Thingamajig!

STEVE
Present and functioning!

KJLLJOY
I hate this ship and I hate you.

GLAXON
Steve, you have more than one spleen? What about the other organs?

STEVE
Us Changelarians don’t have many other organs, we’re mostly made of spleen.

KJLLJOY
I’ll punch you in your ovaries if you don’t shut up.

Steve gets up.

STEVE
(Talking back)FYI, I don’t have any ovaries. I do have a spleen that serves a similar function.

KJLLJOY
Whereabouts is it?

STEVE
(pointing) About here…
KJLLJOY punches STEVE where he had just pointed

STEVE
OW!! My splovaries!

GLAXON
Take it easy Kjlljoy, at least we’re alive. I’m curious about the planet we’ve crash landed on, so
scan the local area, for any tech we can use to fix the ship. More
importantly, Steve, see what they do for kicks around here.

Kjlljoy and Steve get to their stations.

KJLLJOY
Bad  news. The native sentient life forms only seem to have worked
up to basic coal driven steam technology.

GLAXON
That’s gonna make things difficult. What’s the music scene like here?

STEVE
Bad news again. I’ve only detected primitive gramophones and string, wind and percussive instruments.
There’s no trace of any music scene.

GLAXON
Which means… only Jazz, right?

STEVE
They only have one type of music, played in Saloons on Piano.  No Rock, Ska… I’m afraid they won’t
discover Hip Hop for another hundred years.

GLAXON
WHAT!? No Hip Hop? (under breath)The savages!

KJLLJOY
Sounds like a refreshing change of pace from the last planet we were on.

EXT ALIEN WORLD    DAY
Kjlljoy, Steve and Glaxon are speaking to another alien who is making beat box noises.

KJLLJOY
For the last time, where is the Mork-damned space station?!?

STEVE
I’ve got the phrasebook here, but he’s talking too fast!

GLAXON
Hey, hey guys. Check this out.
(pause)
Let's all stop the battle raps,
Lest you fall into the traps,
Let's all hang out and lounge about,
Get the rap game on and play around,
I'm not saying this to one particular person,
I'm saying this to the world, s'why I'm versin.'

The beat box alien makes more laboured and painful noises.

GLAXON
Thank you. Seems he is impressed by my mad flows.

STEVE
Oh! Oh,  I think he just said, “Please stop, you’re standing on my genitals.

KJLLJOY
Mork McGork, let’s get out of here!

INT SPACESHIP HUGGYBEAR BRIDGE

GLAXON
Ahh, yeah. That was awesome.

KJLLJOY
Yeah, sure, after you got out of traction.

GLAXON
Can we just go down to the planet already?

STEVE
I’m afraid we can’t, Glaxon. This planet lies in the Forbidden Zone,
we’re prohibited to interact with the locals.
              
GLAXON
What if we can look like them?

KJLLJOY
How??

Glaxon points to a big machine with tubes coming out of it.

GLAXON
With the cellular reconfigurator, Kjlljoy. I knew it would come in handy some day.
Steve, what species are the locals?

STEVE
Let’s see… Homo sapiens.

GLAXON
Okay. Let’s get this thing fired up.  We just step in, let it do it's thing and then
no-one will be able to tell us apart from all the other homos out there.

INT WILD WEST JAIL
Deputy McDervish sits back in his chair, feet up on a table. He looks sleepy

VOICE
Hey! McDervish!

Deputy McDervish sits upright, looking around wearily. Madeline peeks her head through the front door.

McDERVISH
Aww, what're you want Madeline?

MADELINE
Did you hear that noise coming from the outskirts of town?

McDERVISH
And why did I know you were fixin to ask me about that?  I don't know nuthin'.  I was just sittin here-

MADELINE
I don't want your opinion, Deputy Daydream. I just need a loan of a rifle or one of your old shootin' irons.

McDERVISH
Uh-uh! They're ain't a rattlesnakes chance in a mongoose nest I'm a lend you any federal arms fer
chasin' down God knows whatever made that there noise. Now git! Don't cause me no grief!
And stay away from the outskirts!

EXT WILD WEST TOWN, SALOON    NIGHT
Camera dollies P.O.V. style towards the Saloon.

KJLLJOY
I feel itchy. Are you sure we won’t get stuck like this?

GLAXON
Yes, Kjlljoy, the cellular reconfiguring process is safe and totally reversible.
Trust me, nothing can go wrong.

INT SALOON
Patrons sit around drinking, piano is heard in the background.
Glaxon, Kjlljoy and Steve enter the Saloon in gorilla costumes.

GLAXON
Hey apes.

Everyone freaks out. The gang run away.

INT SPACESHIP HUGGYBEAR BRIDGE

KJLLJOY
I thought you said they were monkeys!

STEVE
And did you see their clothes? We have to look more like this!

Cut to Steve, he looks human, with a cowboy outfit.

KJLLJOY
Oh, yeah. It’s easy for you, Spleenboy!

GLAXON
It's okay. Our costumes just need a little tweaking.  Let's try this again.

INT SALOON
Everything seems back to normal. Glaxon, Kjlljoy and Steve enter again wearing cowboy outfits,
but look alien, except for Steve who looks human.

GLAXON
Wassup my homies.

Everyone freaks out again and the gang run away. Again.

EXT OUTSKIRTS    NIGHT

Madeline creeps slowly towards a strange sound.. She looks around a bush to discover the HUGGYBEAR.

EXT SALOON    NIGHT

KJLLJOY
This is your fault, Glaxon. Don’t say anything when we go inside this time.

GLAXON
But… How will I know where my homies are at?

INT SALOON
Strangely, everyone is back to normal. Patrons sit drinking, piano is heard in the background

Glaxon, Kjlljoy and Steve enter and are silent.

KJLLJOY
(quietly) See?

INT SPACESHIP HUGGYBEAR BRIDGE

Madeline sneaks onboard, looking around. She picks up Steve’s’ thingy.


INT SPACESHIP HUGGYBEAR HOLD

 the box starts to make noises.

We are marooned. It's hopeless...

STEVE
Marooned - yes. Hopeless - maybe, but it's not so bad here, Kjlljoy.  We learned a bunch of new frontier words, like "Howdy ya'll!" and "Go Fer yer gun!" and "Aww Shoot!"

Madeline and the gang meet, Madeline is intensely shocked, there is a tense stand off.

MADELINE
Aww shoot!

GLAXON
Aww Shoot!

KJLLJOY
Aww shoot?!?

Suddenly a robot bursts in!

ROBOT
OH YEAH!!

STEVE
Hey! You found my thingy!

Okay, it looks as if I may not get any further than page 6. Disappointing, but just as Count Dooku predicted. Yeah, i know it looks like a SW ripoff, what can you do, it's not done. I think I will continue later, do the other 18 pages, maybe redo the first 3, i think a more mythological viewpoint would work better.

I think I may be getting the hang of whatever style i'm trying to use here, add just a bit of colour, with any word balloons yet to appear. I have a feeling all the text is gonna scare people off.

First Page good to go. Within the hour? Not bad, provided a minute before I was scheduled to start comicing, I scoffed down a mcmuffin from Mickey Dees, then came down with an instant case of stomach ache, spending the first 15 minutes of the 24 hour comic off on the pot. Yaaaaaaaaay ^____________________^

Anyway, I've been posting them directly by imageshack, so they should all come up underneath this post, so... go on, have a look. I'll just edit this first post every time i update and throw my LJ url onto twitter, that way more people (yes you, sketch and reva) can see without me pushing the pages down with extra posts.

At the 5 hour mark, I've currently posted 4 pages. I'm surprised i'm only one behind at this time, I've impressed myself. And now it's time for work... Yeah,  couldn't get the day off, so I'm gonna go away for 5+ hours, then be back on the horse with no hope in the world of finishing.

I quite like Letraset colour markers, so while putting together my first few strips (yes, it's happening) i did some nice sketches on the side, all coloured in.

Thank you to family, friends, loved ones from across the sea, namely Manchester and everyone who wished me a happy birthday, mostly on facebook, where the site basically remembers for you. Aimee got me a PSP with the enjoyably frustrating beat em up, Tekkn, Dark Ressurection and Killzone Liberation which I've yet to play. i'm sure It'll help the comic in the end, I just don't know how yet.

ANYway, as for comic news, I finally figured out how I'm gonna start (as in the script for my first comic has been changed to something different) and i've got my comic nutted out in the way of how it's gonna be presented. At this moment, It'll be B&W, done by hand (So it'll be a lil different from the images you've seen.) with a unique 3 panel structure (you'll see what I mean) with a possibility of wide panels at the top or bottom to add when I see fit.

Yeah. Aimee and I have been and returned from our 2 week holiday to Manchester.

We bunked at Natt and Cheryls' place, reunited with my In-Laws, Kath and Ian, all of Aimees friends,  work buddies, everybody. It was great, but 2 weeks is way too brief to really take in. Even though we only had a short time, we still managed to bum around, play games (Rock Band mostly) and just be a couple tramps.

Itook me a moleskine journal (unlined, thakn you), tho i mostly doodled in it when we waited in the tattoo studio in Denton Natt and Chez do some work at.

Soo... When the scanner starts working again i'll scan some of my cool tattoo designs up. But they're mostly guttershite.

As far as comic progress, It can all be ecapsulated on a piece of paper towel i wrote some ideas on while i was at work. That's
pretty much the total of all the work i've done since my last post.

Hmm. Why do I do this? Not the comic, but the LJ I ask...

It just seems like hype from somone who isn't ready or capable to do something FOR REALZ.

OH Well... push on.

He's a role player, a trading card gamer, a know-it-all who lived with his grandmother back on Earth. He can only be outplayed occasionally by Jorje, young card gaming prodigy, whom I introduced in an earlier installment.

The other two character are just sketches right now, but I'll put em up.

She enjoys tabletop games and stuff where the game has more of an artistic side and isn't just played out in your mind with numbers. Although it's not done yet, she'll have crazy red hair and... not green eyes, it's overdone. Holly usually argues Bates and is the voice of compassion.

Whom, surprisingly, was the relatively new owner of the hobby shop (Paul's Hobby Shop, the paint still fresh on the signage outside as the Earths atmosphere finally dwindled away and was burst to a crisp by the Sun.), he's pretty muchan outsider to begin with, but becuase Jared, Jorje, Bates and Holly already hung out there, with the old owner and didn't really plan on changing their habits, they quickly became climatised to him. He's got a really "could be your dad" kind of feeling to him, he's lame, a complete greenhorn when it comes to cards and games, but is, for this group, the voice of reason and logic.

Yeah :p

Just a bit of information i thought i'd part with as i build the world of Jared, Richo, their friends, enemies and family.

In this tidbit i thought I'd wax typical on the 3 main types of starships; The hulky retrofitted Jefron Turbine, the clean, but limited Tunney Drive and the unusual, dangerous power of the Kord Warp Manifold.

Also, the engines are pretty much the height of technology, so no repilicators, androids, holograms or beaming technology. also the starship are not able to go at light speed but a slower, "star speed."


The Jefron Turbine runs quite well, utilizing anything as fuel, usually it runs pretty dirty, depending on what you throw in. Also, if fuel runs out, the engine itself begins spewing a caustic smoke, just as if the engine is easting itself from the inside. The best ship to use for sustained travel at star speed.

Engine size is typically huge to enormous, fit for destroyers and larger command and civilian craft, as they can run on the garbage the large populace creates.

Engine core is made of uranium found in an alternate universe, held in an antimatter casing. Impervious to damage. The engine usually generates a light smoke.


Running solely on water, solar energy and carbon dioxide (provided by the crew), the Tunney Drive is extremely clean, but is restricted to medium crews, as it's not powerful enough to propel a larger craft, but with too few crew and the dependence on CO2, the engine literally chokes if there aren't enough people on board. The Tunney Drive needs little solar energy, but large reserves of water. When near "feeding range" of any star, the drive runs at optimal efficiency. when out of this range, solar energy only trickles in and it is less capable of sustained star speed.

Engine size is small to medium.

the Engine core itself is alive, almost like a living plant, generating pulse energy from water, co2 and solar energy, leaving behind a bright green or blue vapour trail.


The Kord Warp Manifold runs relatively clean, but needs a lot of protection around the engine from radiation, rad contamination being the major issue.

The Engine size is extremely small, as the engine itself needs no fuel. Best suited for single fighter size craft or unmanned craft.

The core itself is a Kord crystal, which provides all the energy for the surrounding propulsion manifold, which merely diverts the power in a single direction, a shiny warp trail flowing behind the craft. Also, when the Kord type craft come to complete stops, there is no off switch. the engine is always running. When it stops, it will need a completely new engine, as it will never restart.




Kool. yeah, that's it... Not very concise, but this is copied pretty much straight from my hand written notes i scrawled on the train :P  Also, I got another character done, a supporting character, Jorjé (i think it's pronounced Horhey), one of Jareds friends who hang out at a hobby shop. Bit of a reminder that many of the games they play, be they card or table top games are still seen as the domain of children.

They're not qiute done, but this is the closest I've been to a proper core cast lineup being completed, so hopefully this is a good sign.

Yeah, I know the heads of these are a bit bigger than the others', I need to set up some kind of guide so the heads are all the same size...

Character stuff for zagane, i hope she look just serious and just ridiculous enough. I downloaded a tartan pattern for addition in photoshop... Of all the characters, I'll probably never be satisfied with her design. She was originally gonna be a larger girl, but my art stumbled at the block until this inception appeared good enough. I'll change some things, but this is pretty much it for her, design and costume wise.

Anywho, Gots some character production stills or whatever you might call them. I've sketched out these particular characters a bunch of times (sorry, i can't show my working) more than the others, but of the 6 or so main characters, these aren't any less important, i just knew whgat they were gonna look like before the other ones. >.> Yeah...

As for the core cast, it revolves around family. i wanted the family unit to be interesting before they were flung off the Earth, so I began with with Sci Fi Nerd and Lexx Enthusiast Jared (Yeah, no surnames... might come along later), his best mate, more into football (AFL.. Aussie Rules? You know.. the one most of you won't get) Richo, His gay dads Glenn(Biological father) and Henry, with the last minute addition of Dorothy(Glenns ex-wife and Jared's biological mother) and Zagane, Jareds younger half-sister, ultra goth. Initially, I think the main points of tension would be between Dorothy and Henry, between Richo(the typical intolerant Aussie bogan) and "the gay thing" and between Zagane and everyone else, becuase she just comes off so icy.

So yeah... I promised pictures. I apologise, I wanted to add little production titles to make em look all proffessional, but I couldn't be stuffed.

 Hey there,

Got me a comic idea and thought I might start a journal as a begin working on it. Developing characters and stuff, getting a good idea of the art style i want and where I want to take it. Basically, the idea is a world turned from a regular modern place to a sci fi adventure. In less than a year, the world's atmosphere dissolves, starships become available and the human race become instant exiles in space.

This adventure follows Sci Fi enthusiast Jared, his mates and family as they hurtle through the galaxy in the largest road trip ever. Luckily for him, he becomes a millionairre just minutes of the first TV announcement reguarding the Earth's forseen doom, so he gets access to the craft of his dreams, his very own starship. He's joined by Richo, his best friend and his two dads, Cain and Henry. Two surprise hitchikers join them: Dorothy, Jareds maternal mother and Zagane, his ultragoth half sister.

I'm hoping to build up some secondary characters, like a group of friends of Jareds, a bunch of nerdy tragics who all hang out in a hobby/games shop, some of the people in charge of leading people offworld, like military guys and eventually introduce an alien race or two and eventually some love interests.

i've only written a bit of lore so far and even less art for this. i might, after a while entertain the idea of another artist or something. I dunno yet. I'll prolly use this as a persnal blog too, so it at least gets a bit of wear, unlike my last journal :P



I've been listening to a bit of the Webcomics Weekly podcasts over at http://www.halfpixel.com/ and been reading up on some sci fi webcomics, namely Starslip Crisis at http://www.starslip.com/ and Goodship Chronicles at http://www.goodshipchronicles.com/ .  Both I would recommend to people who enjoy comics, sci fi or not. Blaah, I need to remember how to add HTML links n shit :(
